Creating the best morning routine for yourself if you are an online business owner, small business owner, freelancer, blogger or content creator is essential so that you can be productive and achieve the success you’ve always desired. The morning routine ideas that worked for you as an employee may not work as a content creator.
This article is the best morning routine for me right now at this time in my life. I understand that it may not be the best morning ritual that fits your needs and that is ok. This is just my personal advice on how I organize and create my morning work routine for success.
When I set out on my entrepreneur journey, I was only 23 years old. So, I had no type of knowledge for creating a good morning routine or that there was even a demand for it. I would just get up and start my day. That wasn’t good because it made me unaware that I allowed myself to be pulled in whichever direction was calling me.
As the day flowed, I had no real way of creating a system for success. Worst of all, if nothing was demanding my attention, I would just waste time.

It’s amazing that my business was able to continue to grow. Considering that I didn’t use any specific daily strategy for it. Sometimes, I think Wow! If I had only known at that time the value of a good morning routine.
Now don’t get me wrong, I did have some sort of routine or required schedule. Owning and operating a music teaching business required me to get to my school at a specific time each day and open up. Because I had lessons scheduled with people at that time.
However, what was truly important was that I needed to pay attention to what I was doing with my available morning hours!
Waking up early was never my thing. For as long as I can remember, I have always been a night owl. Even in my high school days, I would stay up super late ..and then struggle to get up for school. I still have much of that in me to this day.
So it came as no surprise that for most of my adult life, I continued to stay up until the wee hours of the morning. Pretty much the only time I enjoy getting up early is if I’m leaving for a trip. Lol. Other than that, let me sleep!
It wasn’t until recent years that I began to fall in love with early mornings. I’m not sure if it has to do with getting older but, I love the quietness of the morning. Everything seems slow and patient. Not too fast paced. Getting up earlier helps me to be more self aware of how my focus becomes the energy that I carry throughout the entire day.
If I’m a mess in the morning, my entire day pays for it. On the flip side, if I’m able to be more intentional around my mornings then I tend to have a much more productive and rewarding day.
So when I decided to get more intentional about my life and goals, I started to pay attention to things which would cause distractions, delay me or even trigger me. Because I knew that they could derail me and get me out of “the mood” for what I was aiming for to construct my productive day.
So since I am in the early stages of my blog. I wanted to share with my readers what my morning work routine looks like. Hopefully, you can find some nuggets of wisdom within my system to adapt to your life.
My morning routine looks like this:
Wake up naturally (no alarm) by 7 am
I purposely avoid checking any and all types of messages. My anxiety is best manageable when I focus on how I am responding to my thoughts..(I hope that makes sense?!) So as early as possible if I am able to refresh and relax my mind that’s what I do.
For example: if I receive a text that says “call me” or we need to talk and it was sent 3 hours ago.. I can easily freak out with intense emotions of worry and overwhelming doubt immediately going to a place of disaster etc. (which primarily comes from my dysfunctional childhood and trauma in my life) My conditioning leads me to feel that my worth is in fixing, rescuing etc. Nevertheless, I’m in the healing process now and I know that I am capable of applying better solutions to my problems.
Nevertheless, when I receive text messages or emails along those lines and feel a sense of urgency to get back to that person-I tend to stop everything direct my attention to handling that and ignoring anything and everything (even eating) until it’s resolved. Not good!
I have since learned that nothing in this world is more important than taking care of yourself.
Now that I am holding off on checking messages, I take the time to get myself in alignment for the day.
I first start by saying a prayer and starting with some daily affirmations.
My affirmations are so important because it really intercepts my anxiety and ruminating thoughts. It’s very easy if I don’t see validation for my book sales, it’s super easy for me to default to such negative moods. My thoughts will tell me things like, it’s not working. No one will purchase your books, you have sold the last book…it’s no longer popular. And my overall body sensations just plummet and I feel terrible and tired. My motivation is gone for the rest of the day.
You see, it’s not easy for me to believe in myself. I suffer terribly from self-doubt, self-sabotage etc. I get all excited about something I want to do and then get easily consumed with “how” to do it? And why would anyone care or want me to do it!? I understand the reason why I feel this way is from my childhood conditioning. How I always felt unstable. So in order to combat incessant worry, I eliminate it by overriding it with affirmations to make sure I’m believing in myself.
The next step in my morning routine is actually writing a gratitude list. If I’m working through a specific process like “The Magic” by Rhonda Byrne from “The Secret” then I will do that one. If not then I will just write my own. Again, this is simply done to shift my intentions for the day and make sure that I maintain a healthy mental energy for the day. Additionally, I might listen to some motivational speaker on YouTube or a podcast about mindset. I might even add in a little visualizing if I’m working on my self image and building my self-esteem about a project. All of this is done while still in bed. Lol…
The next step is getting out of bed, and cleaning myself up. If I’m headed to the gym then I will prepare for the morning workout or a morning walk.
Then I eat.
Finally, I sit down at my desk and begin working through my to-do list for the day. By that time, I am ready to check messages and emails with a sound mind. Then I start my creative process, whether that’s working on my Etsy Shop or my Amazon KDP books.
That’s about all for my morning routine. I hope that you have enjoyed reading my morning routine.
